A few points :
”cheap Chinese dongle” doesn’t fill me with confidence.
Are you certain the dongle isn’t network locked to a certain network other than Three ? (Three is the parent company of Smarty)
It may not be, as the APN of “mob.asm.net” is the APN for Smarty.
Are you sure that Three / Smarty offer coverage “out in the sticks” where you need to use it ? In my experience, Three / Smarty coverage can be patchy at best in rural area’s.
You may be better off returning the device to Amazon and getting another dongle more suited for your needs, as much as you may not want to do so.
