Buying add-on for EU in addition to using 12gb data allowance

Hi,

I've searched for an answer but haven't found anything that specifically answers my question.

My daughter is going to Italy tomorrow and so will have her 12gb data allowance to use. As she is staying in a place with no Wi-Fi I know that this will be used therefore I intend to buy an add-on today before she leaves.

My question is, does the 12gb "free" allowance gets used first and then auto switch to the add-on package I've purchased? And just a supplementary question; if the add-on gets used can I just buy another one and this will immediately be available for her to use?

Many thanks

Roscoe_3368388 If she has a plan with more than 12GB data, she can have access to anything over the 12GB limit by buying an EU Data Roaming pass for 1 day (£3) or 3 days(£7).

Another way round it would be to buy an International Esim such as Airalo, Freely, Roamless etc and that could be turned on instead of the Smarty sim for data. That may work out cheaper, depending upon what you expect her to use.

Hi, sorry for late response. I didn't see this reply and I ended up purchasing a 15gb data add-on for £14. I think I misunderstood the rules and she has now used her 12gb allowance but the 15gb hasn't kicked in. Did I do this all wrong? Is this data add-on I purchased not specifically for EU?

Looking at your reply I should have purchased an EU roaming pass I guess? Can I still do this now?

      Thanks

Roscoe_3368388 So, it looks like you purchased a data add on - see p14 of Price Guide.

Asyou correctly surmise, if she has used her 12Gb Roaming Allowance, this won't work in the EU.

She needed the specific pass that I mentioned. I cannot see why you cannot purchase one now though (coo...a lot of negatives, but d'you get what I mean!?)
