Apple Watch e-sim
Hi, I’m just wondering whether SMARTY has any plans to introduce e-sim smart watch ads ons in the near future. I’ve recently purchased a cellular Apple Watch and don’t want to move away from the SMARTY network, but may have to begrudgingly do this if nothing is on the horizon. Thanks. As per $subject. It is now inexcusable for Smarty to not support eSIM. 3 UK support it, yet are limiting it to post-paid, with prepaid excluded. This is not acceptable. Why are *all* US carriers supporting eSIM for post *and* pre-paid, even before Apple forced their hand, yet the UK - again - lags behind?52KViews17likes42CommentseSIM is here 🎉
You’ve been asking, and we’ve been listening. We’re excited to let you know that eSIM is now available for existing SMARTY customers🙌 We’re starting things off with a soft launch, so right now you’ll only see the option if you’re an existing customer and you go through the SIM replacement journey. That means if your phone supports eSIM and you want to switch from your physical SIM, you’re good to go. Wait, what’s an eSIM? An eSIM (which stands for embedded SIM) is a small chip that’s built directly into your phone or device. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, your mobile plan can be downloaded straight onto the eSIM. Think of it like streaming a song instead of popping in a CD, it’s all digital, and it’s all seamless. How to make the switch Just log into your SMARTY account, head to Account settings > Manage plan > Replace SIM, and choose to replace your current SIM with an eSIM. Follow the remaining steps and you’ll be up and running in no time. We’re rolling this out carefully to keep things smooth, but more eSIM goodness is on the way 👀 Need more information or support on eSIM? Check out our Help and FAQ page for the most common FAQs. I know this topic has been raised numerous times on the Community thread, but I wanted to raise this again on the vague hope that SMARTY see this, and reconsider the stance of eSIM provision. I have been with SMARTY for quite some time and it works well with my Apple iPhone 14 Pro. I am considering upgrading my phone in September 2024 to the Apple iPhone 16, which if the rumours are correct so far…then this will be the one of the many “new breeds” of mobile i.e. WITHOUT a SIM tray, and so SMARTY will no longer work on it. I have messaged the technical team today to see if there are any updates on eSIMs …and the was given the same longstanding message that this“may” be considered in future. There are many MVNOs now offering eSIM options now…Lebara, Lycamobile, Spusu, IDMobile (Also, runs on 3) etc…so I guess I will have to move across to another provider if SMARTY are unable to provide this, which will be a shame, but this would be a dealbreaker for me once I do upgrade my phone. I do feel that eSIMs need to be brought up the list of priorities now for SMARTY, given manufacturers are now all starting to remove the SIM trays from new models…and other MVNOs are aware of this and starting to offer eSIM solutions.3.8KViews7likes4CommentsLots of eSIM companies popping up and Smarty is still lagging behind?
I recently returned to Giffgaff after being on an EE contract for a few years. I would have chosen Smarty if it supported eSIM, but there appears to be no effort whatsoever to adopt the new technology. I keep checking back because I do think Smarty reception is superior in my area, but I'm done with SIM cards now, they just end up in landfills when you switch. A lot of start ups now offering roaming eSIMs and even Revolut getting in on the game. If they can do it, why can't Smarty? Why are you dragging your heels on this, Smarty?17KViews7likes10CommentsSmarty eSim and Apple Watch
Hi community! The recent Apple announcement on the iPhone Air seems to have forced Smarty's hand on eSim. So we finally have eSim on Smarty!! However, trying to enable Mobile Service on my Apple Watch and I get: "Your airtime plan is not compatible with the smartwatch pairing service - Please call your contact center" After speaking with Smarty support, it seems they just dont support smartwatches. So, we are in the same place as several years ago, just with an eSim instead of a physical sim. Seems really odd, the older posts about Smartwatch support got replies saying "We dont support eSim so you cant use your Smartwatch". However, now you have eSim support and we still cant use Smartwatches. Whats the reason this time?? I dont mind paying a few extra quid each month for it to work, I just want it to work!621Views3likes2Comments
