Re: Calling all Unlimited Plan customers…
Thanks for the response. I think it might be to do with the amount of people using the local masts. I live in a heavily built up student area, which might mean mast congestion possibly. I have noticed the speeds are much better late at night, from around 0.30mps in the day, to 5-6mps or more after around 11pm, although this varies. Again, I realise there may not be much SMARTY can do about it, but giving the feedback in case it is useful 🙂 I should also say I am using 4G, my phone isn't 5G capable, so I can't comment on 5G speeds.6.5KViews1like0CommentsRe: Calling all Unlimited Plan customers…
I got a good unlimited deal a few months back (£15 for 15 months or so). Unfortunately it is often unusable, my network coverage is apparently (Excellent) in my area according to the site, however I am lucky to get 1-2mps and often it is under 1mps, and is pretty much unusable. According to the network status there are no issues. This has been the case since I got Smarty around 4 months (I think) ago. So in a nutshell, great deal...if it worked. If I look for masts using the OpenSignal app, there is a Three mast just two roads away (about 2 minutes walk) from where I am. I have tried a Lebara SIM just to see if there was a difference, or if it was my device, and received around 30-70mps, and the mast for Vodafone was further away. I am not sure if there is anything Smarty can do about things like this, as it is presumably down to Three, but that has been my experience so far.6.7KViews2likes2CommentsRe: General advice on internet / network service and number change
Many thanks for the info and suggestion. I do still have the other account (giffgaff) activated so that's good to know. Yes, I was wondering if it might be mast congestion, which might explain why it's faster late at night. It really is almost unusable during the day, I have trouble loading websites, yet late at night I have even managed to stream 4K video for a short time.1.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: General advice on internet / network service and number change
Update: Still unusable. The connection is all over the place and today it's around 11k/s and so wont even load web pages. I am having to use my old GiffGaff account to connect. At night it can go up as fast as 5mbs. When I am in another area of the city it can go as fast as 20mps on a speed test, so its certainly an issue with the mast in my area. What's confusing is why does it go up late at night ? The network status still says fixing an issue in my area, that did change to "no issues detected" for a day, but the connection was still poor. Now its gone back to saying they are fixing an issue in my area. I am starting to think this will be the norm unfortunately, and so might have to look for another network provider. A shame as I like Smarty and the speeds are really fast in other areas, just not right where I live 😞1.4KViews0likes2CommentsGeneral advice on internet / network service and number change
Hi there, I just got my Smarty SIM yesterday and got it all up and running. I intend to move my number over at some point, however the internet speed is currently unusable, I'm talking 0.04MPS ! This was the case until late last night as it suddenly went right up and was fine, could even stream 4K on it, and this morning it was okay, but now back to being unusable (using my old network to write this). The network status online does say there is an issue in my area and they are working on it. So my question is, in peoples experience, when the status says this, is it actually true or can it stay like this for weeks/months ? I know it's not Smarty's fault and its the Three network, so not complaining, just trying to ascertain if this might be the norm or if it likely will get fixed soon. The reason I ask is I dont want to go through the hassle of transferring my number to Smarty only to find its an unusable service where I live. This leads me on to my next question, as I obviously don't want to transfer until I know I can get a usable service, and am waiting to see if this is a temporary glitch, I am wondering how long a time period I have to transfer my number before I no longer can? Is it an indefinite period or do I have to do it within a certain amount of time after I activated my Smarty SIM? Any help much appreciated and glad to be here 🙂1.4KViews0likes3Comments
