Band 20 cell tower access.

I'm a country bumkin, been with smarty for 5 years with excellent connection to my only local mast 1.5km away. 10-15mbps might not seem fast but does me fine.

However over yhe last couple weeks service has been appalling 0.1-0.2mbps.

Investigated to find my daytime signal now from a band 28 mast 10km away. My local band 20 tower now only connects between 10pm and 6am.

Tried smarty support who seem to work of scripts only, and will not recognise a fault/reconfigure.

Any one else had problem with smarty on band 20 towers. Might have no option to switch providers, shame really.

Three/Smarty have twice the capacity on band 28 as they do on band 20 (10MHz as opposed to 5MHz), so their band 28 is generally going to give better performance (in terms of data speeds) than their band 20, and my own experience backs that up.

My guess is that Three may have configured the network to tell devices to prefer band 28 where available (even if the signal is lower than the device can get in that location on band 20), but for whatever reason, the band 28 mast you are connecting to isn't performing well. Maybe it has a fault or maybe it's just congested.

If your device enables you to, you could try locking it to band 20.
