Using a lot of data

I seem to be using a lot of data at the moment. My history shows me downloading  big files - 162MB and even over 500MB every day or two. I only have 800MB to last 2.weeks until my plan renews. It will renew with more data. Wondering what I am doing that is causing high data usage. And how to increase my allowance for the rest of this month
