Can't make or receive calls on new Smarty SIM

Setting up my daughter's phone on a new Smarty SIM. Working ok in terms of data and internet, but it can't make or receive calls. Texting sort of works; she can send texts to me and receive them, but tried to set up WhatsApp and the confirmation text isn't coming through. 

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated 👍 👍

    KirstyY_1702166​ Is it worth taking out the sim and carefully cleaning it before re-inserting in phone? Is some texts work, it's hard to see why others do not. You are in the UK?
