Samsung A34 5G wifi calling

Just joined Smarty with my Samsung A34 5G dual sim.

Wifi calling works with both sims simultaneously and 5G on both simultaneously, one is on EE and the other is Smarty.

There does seem to be an issue with Smarty going onto wifi calling, it seems to prefer to use the cellular network if the signal is good. You can force this by going onto airplane mode and manually switching on wifi while airplane mode is still on, and wifi calling comes on instantly. Not the best, will see how it goes when my number is ported over and have a chance to use it properly. Just got to switch off my voicemail now.

As above, I'm worried that a caller was sent to voicemail when I was at home with WiFi calling & internet active. Can any of you gurus suggest reasons why that could happen?

I'm in a dark hole for mobile signal, so Wifi calling is essential to me

Many thanks for yr replies above

If there is any mobile signal available, even if you have WiFi calling on, you will not get WiFi calling (unless you are using an iPhone as they seem to work differently). To guarantee WiFi calling when at home, you have to turn airplane mode on and then turn WiFi on again which leaves mobile data off. Then you will get WiFi calling.

        THANK YOU Sinkers

That matches my problem precisely, in my nearly NOT-Spot home location.

This thread is for a Samsung A34; I have an A54 and the behaviour differs a little.
On A54 quick panel, WiFi does NOT toggle off when Flight mode is turned ON.
Mobile Data isn't a switch on A54 (now Android 14); it is an indicator only, showing Flight Mode inverted.

You just have to remember always to toggle Flight Mode on leaving the house
and then again on returning Home.
I tend to have Flight Mode ON partly for Battery Saving purposes
(but I often forget to Switch Flight off on leaving home)

        Could Samsung automate that?
perhaps with a new Old/New Behaviour switch in Settings, to give the user absolute control
        For example, New Behaviour
Every once per 2 or 3, minutes check
IF WiFi is ON AND has internet access THEN
switch Flight Mode ON (=Mobile Data OFF)
        ELSE
Switch Flight Mode OFF (=Mobile Data ON)
        End If

I'm having trouble with Callers being instantly sent to Voicemail when phone is on Wifi Calling
I am missing calls for a Hospital appt (a Private No, so I can't call back) - Grrr!!
Must I have Mobile Data on?  I'm in a very weak signal area and inside the house, but have good wifi 20MB/sec

There is an easy solution to make sure you have wifi calling working when you want it, such as at home. Just put your phone into airplane mode and then turn WiFi back on again. As there is no mobile data connection, WiFi calling is the default, and only connection method. If you have mobile data and WiFi calling on and there is the slightest of mobile data signal, then  the phone will not use WiFi calling. You have to make sure that there is absolutely no mobile signal for WiFi calling to be activate. Don't forget to get out of airplane mode when you go outside though.

No, no need for mobile data to be on for WiFi calling to work.

GrahamS_1507134 Not sure why mobile data will affect calls or texts.

I doubt this behaviour will change after switching your number to SMARTY, Stan

The configuration profile provided, by EE, for your Samsung device will probably have an option to prefer WiFi Calling, when WiFi Calling is ENABLED. This option may not be available with the SMARTY network, Stan.

It is a pity that Smarty don't implement the calling preference option between WiFi and the mobile network like other providers do.

You are correct, the prefer wifi calling option I had with the EE sim has gone with  Smarty. Although I do get a better cellular service now so it shouldn't be an issue.

The other issue I had when my number was ported was the phone number tied with the sim remained with the original number, but as others have done, I fitted the sim into an old iPhone 6 and went to conacts, and that has updated it.
